If I Can't Go to the forest, I Will Bring it to Me

A case submitted by

Sneha Jindal

I grew up in New Delhi and have spent all my life living in a concrete jungle. The closest thing I had to accessing and experiencing nature was walking around artificial and manicured public parks in the city. Although I had grown up in settings far removed from natural environments, I always experienced a yearning for being around greenery. To compensate for the lack of such environments around me, I started building a home jungle! I collected native plants and grew them in my room. Soon enough, every empty surface in my space was filled up with pots and tubs of soil and plants. Turning my room into a miniature forest/nursery significantly improved my mental health. I felt as if I were surrounded by living, sentient beings that encouraged me to turn towards the sun and grow alongside them.
