I am Ther, a Bisaya girl who first moved to Manila, the bustling capital of the Philippines at age 16, and then moved to (what I call) the capital of the world, New York City, at 23. This is my story of how wherever I go, how much my mind has expanded, and how much of the world I have seen, I can never erase the beliefs embedded in my own heritage.

As the sun sets over the bustling cityscape of Istanbul, I find myself reminiscing about the days when the skyline seemed untouched by the hands of time. Growing up in Turkey, I remember endless fields stretching out before me, adorned with olive groves and vineyards, a patchwork of vibrant colors under the warm Mediterranean sun.

I grew up in Delhi, India which is now one of the top polluted cities in the world. I am sharing this story because the environment plays an important role in my life and it deeply saddens me to think of the pollution and smog in Delhi, making it more and more difficult for people to live there.
